Your operation is world-class.

Your branding & marketing should be too.

Design & Photography for the Commercial Fishing Industry

Serving Far North Queensland & Beyond

The commercial fishing industry has always run on reputation. A solid catch history, reliable relationships, and a name that carries weight at the dock. For a long time, that was enough.

Not anymore. The tide is shifting. Export buyers research you before they call. Sustainability certifiers want to see a credible operation before they sign off. Crew candidates look you up before they commit to a season. And the next generation taking over the business expects more.

A strong brand isn't vanity in this industry anymore. It's commercial infrastructure.

Over the past decade, I've worked within and alongside one of Australia's largest and most established commercial fishing operations — present at unloads, managing vessel administration, and building a genuine understanding of live export logistics and key Asian export markets. Most recently, I was a cook for a crew of 16 across a 17-day trip.

My partner has worked as a commercial crayfish diver and dory diver for the past 20 years between the East Coast of Australia and the Torres Strait. Unlike other agencies that may claim they have what it takes to serve the commercial fishing industry (they don’t), I know what this industry actually looks like from the inside. As a business and as a lifestyle.

That experience, combined with my full-service boutique design and marketing studio, is a combination that's almost unheard of.

So let’s skip the basics and get straight to what matters: your goals and what it takes to pull ahead.

“I've known Jacinta for the better part of ten years. She's one of the few people outside the industry who actually understands how it runs — the logistics, the pressure, the reality of it. Most recently she joined one of our trips as cook for a 17-day stint with a crew of  16, which says a lot about her work ethic and how she fits in on board. If you're after someone who can handle your design, photography or marketing and actually gets what this industry is about, she's it.

“Jacinta has been around MG Kailis in some capacity for close to a decade now, and it shows in the way she talks about the business — she's not learning the industry from the outside, she already knows it. Between her time on boat admin and being out on trips herself, she understands what matters to an operation like ours in a way most creative or marketing people simply don't. Her work ethic speaks for itself, and I'd have no hesitation recommending her to anyone in the industry looking for design, photography or marketing support.”

FAQs

  • Where are you based?

Studio Behana is based just north of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland, and we collaborate with businesses across Australia and worldwide.

  • What types of commercial fishing businesses do you work with?

All shapes and sizes. Commercial fishing operators, live export seafood businesses, fishing co-ops and industry groups, charter and fishing tourism operators, and everything in between. If you're in the industry, we’d love to hear from you.

  • We’ve gotten by this long without investing in branding and marketing. Why start now?

Fair question. Put simply, the industry has changed. Export buyers Google you before they call. Crew candidates look you up before they sign on. Sustainability certifiers want to see a credible operation. And the next generation of fishing families expects more than a handshake and a business card.

Good branding and marketing isn't about looking flashy. It's about looking credible. And when credibility translates to stronger market prices, better crew retention, and more cash flow for fleet improvements, the return speaks for itself.

  • Why should we hire you over any other agency?

Because most agencies have never set foot on a cray boat. They'd spend most of your valued time (and dollars) getting up to speed on how the industry actually works, while using corporate language that means nothing to your buyers or crew.

With over 10 years of hands-on experience and a genuine passion for the commercial fishing and diving industry — from managing boat admin to onboard cook — I already know the ins and outs. That means our time together goes straight to your goals and the results you want to achieve, not unpacking basics.

  • We have little to no online presence. Where do we even start?

Right here. A lot of family-owned fishing businesses have built their reputation through word of mouth and traditional relationships, and there's nothing wrong with that. But having a credible, consistent online presence is now non-negotiable, not just a nice-to-have. Your wholesale buyers, export contacts, and future crew members are looking you up online, and what they find (or don’t) matters.

Whether it’s setting up a new website, refreshing your brand identity or other design collateral, we'll help you figure out exactly what you need and build it properly from the ground up.

  • Alright, sounds great! How do we get started?

Send us an enquiry, and we'll jump on a no-obligation discovery call to talk through what you're after and what you want to achieve. From there, we'll put together a tailored proposal and talk through next steps.
