Sand & Sea Dancers

Brand Photography

Cairns, Queensland, Australia

Sand & Sea Dance Troupe is a First Nations contemporary dance troupe based in Far North Queensland — family-supported and proudly modern, often described as the region's own answer to Bangarra Dance Theatre.

We've provided ongoing brand photography and iPhone content creation for the troupe, capturing rehearsals, performers and behind-the-scenes moments to give Sand & Sea Dancers a genuine, consistent library of content for their social media presence.

That relationship extended into "From The North," a dance film capturing the troupe's story and movement on screen, later brought to life in a live screening event at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre in Cairns City. We photographed the full journey — rehearsals in the lead-up, the film shoot itself, and the behind-the-scenes moments that brought the project together, alongside the dancers at the heart of it all.

This kind of dance photography has to capture more than technique — it's about the culture, story and movement behind every performance. Caitlin, who runs the troupe, has spoken about that depth directly, describing a safe, empowering space where the young dancers connect with their heritage and grow both individually and as a community, and calling Jacinta "such a compassionate and talented mentor guiding these young artists." The result is a body of imagery that reflects Sand & Sea Dancers exactly as they are: a First Nations performing arts group telling their story, on stage, on screen and off, right across Far North Queensland.
