Ask five designers in Cairns what a brand identity costs and you'll likely get five very different answers. One quotes a few hundred dollars for a logo. Another quotes several thousand for something that sounds similar on paper.
It's confusing — and it makes it hard to know whether you're comparing like with like. So let's take the guesswork out of it. Here's what brand identity design costs at our studio, what changes as the investment goes up and how to work out what your business actually needs.

Why quotes vary so much
Most of the difference comes down to one question: are you buying a logo, or a brand?
A logo on its own is a single mark. It might look great, but it doesn't tell you which colours to use on your website, how your social posts should look or what your business sounds like when it speaks.
A brand identity is the whole system — your logo suite, colour palette, typography, supporting graphics and the guidelines that tie it all together. At the higher end, it also includes the strategy behind those decisions: who you're speaking to, how you're positioned and the tone of voice that carries across everything you write.
When two quotes look wildly different, it's usually because one includes far more of that thinking than the other.
What brand identity design costs at Studio Behana
Our brand identity packages range from $1,500 to $4,500 + GST, with timelines of two to eight weeks depending on the level you choose.
At the starting end, you'll receive a clear, professional brand built from your input — a brand questionnaire, two creative direction moodboards, a primary logo and submark, a colour palette, typography and a one-page style guide. It suits new businesses that need a solid, consistent starting point without the complexity of a full brand build.
In the middle, strategy comes into the picture. A one-on-one strategy session and a brand strategy summary shape your positioning and audience direction before any design begins. You'll also receive a full logo suite, brand elements and a starter imagery collection.
At the top end, you'll have a comprehensive brand strategy document covering your audience, positioning, messaging and tone of voice. It also includes patterns and illustrations, multi-page brand guidelines and three custom touchpoints — such as business cards, social templates or an email signature — so your brand is ready to use from day one.
Already have a logo you love? A brand expansion builds a cohesive system around it, without starting from scratch.
What you're really paying for
It's easy to look at a logo and see a few hours of design. What you don't see is everything underneath it.
The questionnaire and strategy session make sure we understand your business, your audience and where you're heading. The moodboards give you a real say in the direction before design begins. The revisions give you room to refine. And the guidelines mean whoever touches your brand next — a printer, a web developer, a new team member — can use it properly.
That's the part that makes a brand hold up over time. Katie from Core Centric Group, a Cairns sales, recruitment and HR business, put it simply — she appreciated how thorough we were in understanding not just what she does, but why.
The cost of getting it wrong
A cheap logo isn't always a bad decision. But it often becomes an expensive one later.
The pattern looks familiar. A business launches with a quick logo, then outgrows it within a year or two. The colours don't work on signage. The file doesn't scale for a vehicle. Nobody's quite sure which font to use.
Eventually, everything gets redone — the logo, the website, the printed material — and the business pays twice.
Investing in a considered brand from the start doesn't guarantee you'll never refresh it. It does mean you're building on something designed to grow with you.
How to choose the right level
A few questions help narrow it down:
- Are you just starting out? A streamlined brand gives you a professional foundation without overcommitting while you find your feet.
- Are you ready to grow, or rebranding an established business? Strategy becomes far more valuable when you're trying to stand apart from competitors or attract a different kind of client.
- Will other people be using your brand? If you have a team, a printer or a web developer working with your brand regularly, detailed guidelines save a lot of back and forth.
- Do you already have a logo you're attached to? Building a system around it may be all you need.
If you're still not sure, that's what the discovery call is for. We'll talk through your goals and recommend the package that suits — or customise one that includes everything you need and nothing you don't.

Payment plans and not-for-profits
Every package can be split into two 50% payments, so the investment doesn't have to land all at once. A 50% retainer secures your start date, and the remainder is due four weeks later or before your final files are handed over.
Registered not-for-profit organisations also receive a 10% discount — just mention it when you enquire.
A brand built to last
The right brand identity isn't about spending the most. It's about investing at the level that matches where your business is now and where it's heading. Clients like Millstream Meadows have described the result as incredible value for money — because the work keeps paying off long after the project wraps up.
